Spanish in the Mall
I was in Kennedy Mall a couple of weeks ago, and there was two Spanish women in front of me in line. They were talking very quickly. One word that I had heard them say was invierno, so I knew that they must be talking about the weather. I heard a lot of basic stuff like: cuando and que but that was all I was able to get from the conversation. It's always interesting to hear them speak now that I can always catch a few words.
Spanish in St. Louis
Last summer me and my family went down to St. Louis to visit my cousins. One day we went shopping for my cousins birthday present. After we got it we went to check out and there were spanish speaking people already there in line. I think they were talking about something like having a fiesta for their kid but i couldn't quite catch on they were talking so fast. When they finally checked out i was so confused but its a lot better than I would have been at the beginning of the year.
Spanish At Home
So one day I was sitting at home doing my homework and Kayla asked me if I would help her study. So of course, the good sister that I am, I told her I would. Little did I know it was Spanish she was studying for. There were a bunch of sentences and phrases, I guess they were questions. I had to ask her these questions, and I was a little freaked out at first. I messed up a lot of words, but then I started to get it. I even understood what the questions were asking like: What are you wearing? and things like that. What did you like to do when you were little? I understood these, although the verbs were in a different tense I think. So, I guess I got a little practice with Spanish at home, with my sister's homework.
Disney Channel Show
One day I was watching t.v. and I was watching the Disney Channel. The show I was watching was called Shake It Up and the guy named Deuce who like a girl and was meeting her parents. Her dad was very strict and he spoke spanish and english but you could tell he had an accent. He had Deuce take care of pig so show that he had responsibility. When the girls dad was talking he was telling the name of his body guards. Their names were Izquierdo and Derecho which means left and right. He told us that but I knew before he explained what it meant. I felt kind of smart for a minute because I actually knew what they were talking about and it wasn't over my head like some things are.

Spanish Channel
So I was sitting in my kitchen about a month ago eating a bowl of chocolate chip ice cream and my little brother Andy, who is 12, was sitting in there with me at the kitchen table. We were watching TV when I felt like doing some channel surfing so I just kept flipping through the channels, and that is when I came across the Spanish channel! I don't remember what it was called, but I was trying to pick out little words or phrases even that I knew and it was very, VERY difficult because the people were talking really really REALLY fast. I could pick out words like "para" or "es". I think I may have even heard the word "gustan" or something like that. All I know is that it was difficult to understand everything because they were speed demons talking! Being in Spanish 1 helped me understand tiny words though.
Las Flores
My whole Salow Family went to Las Flores in Manchester to celebrate my Grandpa Salow's Birthday. When we first arrived they said Hola and I knew that was hello and then they asked como estas so I said estoy bien and I think they were amazed that I knew some Spanish. Then the rest of the Salow Clan arrived and they gave us menus and I picked out that pollo was chicken and carne was meat. I really don't like Mexican food so Derek, Dylan, Zach and I went to Burger King and ate down there. When we went back to the restaurant we tried to speak Spanish with our uncles, but it didn't end up well because they didn't understand a word we were saying. I had a great time with my family and ended up using my Spanish skills when we went out to eat. We all had a great time!

The Cowboy Way
My sister and I felt like watching a movie this weekend to wait for dad to get home from a sale. We chose the movie "The Cowboy Way." Its about two guys who go to help their friend find his daughter whom he payed someone to smuggle in from Cuba. While in New York they run into some trouble with some spanish speaking people but luckily they learned a little growing up in New Mexico. A few phrases they use are, "como esta", and "hasta lavista."

Mexican Restaurant
One very fine evening the Salow family went to Las Flores in Manchester to celebrate my Grandpa's birthday. It was funny when the waiters came over because my uncles and my father couldn't understand what they were saying. The only words I recognized that they were saying were the foods. I looked at the menu to see what they had but everything sounded gross. I was hoping that they would have American food there but they didn't. So Dylan, Zach, Savannah, and I went down the road and ate at Burger King. I liked that place much better than the Mexican Restaurant.

Spanish Comment
I was just messing around looking at dresses on the interent when I saw a comment in spanish! It said, "Me encanta me lo pusiera para un sweet sixteen o para prom!! Esta bellisismo!" I saw it used a form of estar and encanta which we used to answer some of our questions. I was able to comprehend this comment because of the basic things we have learned like pronouns. I would say this girl celebrates American customs because she said she is having a sweet sixteen instead of a quinceanera.

T.V. with Spanish
I was watching t.v. one night and noticed that we had two stations that showed the exactly save thing, except one of them was in English and the other was in Spanish. So I turned that station on for a little bit to see if I could reconize any of the words. They were talking so fast that I wasn't even able to understand what they were saying. I also wasn't able to pick out any of the words that I had learned, so everything was all new to me.

Eating at a Mexican restaurant
Once upon a time my whole Salow family ate at a mexican restaurant for my Grandpa's Birthday. It was very confusing and funny to listen to them because my uncles had no idea what they were saying, but I had an idea. They would ask questions like chicken or beef I knew that but once they started talking for real I had no idea, good thing I'm in Spanish 1.
