http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKpDifyDIp0 So I'm sitting here at home, sick from school and I'm flipping through the channels when I stop on a movie called, "Real Women Have Curves." It's about a girl whose mother is too overprotective and they are Spanish. It's a pretty good movie, except for the fact that half of it is in Spanish and I can't understand it. Well I guess I thought I couldn't understand it at first. I was overwhelmed by how quickly and fluently they could speak in both English and Spanish, and I thought to myself, "There's no way I'll ever be able to do that." But then I stopped psyching myself out and I realized that if I think about it and just take it one word at a time, and not cheat by looking at the bottom of the screen, I could understand it for the most part. Some of the words I could pick out were por favor (please), de nada (you're welcome), que bonita (pretty), ¿y tú? (and you?), señor (Mr.), te amo (I love you), and a couple more that I don't remember. I also learned a little about the Spanish background if this movie is legit. I learned that the mothers are very overprotective of their daughters. I also learned that they truly believe in hard work and that in the end it will pay off and make you feel good about yourself. Lastly, this movie got me to like Spanish music. Throughout the entire movie, Spanish music was playing in the background. I truly believe this movie was pretty educational for me. So, not only did I have the luxury of just watching the movie, but I also got to learn some things from it.

Border Wars

So today I get home and I see that the show Border Wars is on, so I turn it on and watch it. As I am watching this show I hear a lot of spanish but none of the words seem to really pop out at me because they are talking so fast. So as I am listening I hear two different parts or phrases. These are, como te llamas and estados unidos. Otherwise I just heard a bunch of rambeling. So with all of that I gained a sence of pride that I can learn spanish.

Spanish is EVERYWHERE!

Last Saturday my sister and I went to Sabula to a birthday party for a friend of ours. On the way we stopped at Wal-Mart to get a birthday card. I happened to glance at the thank you card section and there was a card that said "meowy grassious'' with a cat and cows on the front and on the inside it said in all languages it means the same.
I thought it was a cute way to teach young kids muy gracious in a way that they could understand what it would mean. It would also be an easy way to get more people to understand simple sayings in spanish.

Spanish is everywhere!!!!

A couple weeks ago I was taking my shower and I was looking at my shampoo and conditioner bottles and was reading them over. Once I got towards the bottom of the bottles I saw that it had spanish in it and I was trying to figure out what some of it said. All I had to do was look at the english part and try and figure out how to say the spanish words. I got some words but other ones I had no idea what it was talking about. Then I was looking at the conditioner bottle and those words were about the same as the words on the shampoo bottle. Where ever you look you are always seeing spanish words. Spanish words are everywhere.

So Random

A few weeks ago I was bringing my brother back to his apartment from our parents house. I was very tired because I didn't get very much sleep the night before. So instead of helping my brother put his close away I laid down on his bed an started watching t.v. The show that was on his t.v. was a Disney show called So Random. They were doing a weird skit where these people were dressed up in crazy clothes that made them look like they were from a different country. As I was watching it I noticed that they were teaching some spanish. The week before that we learned the colors in spanish. It turns out that on the show they were teaching the kids the colors in spanish. As they were teaching the colors such as negro and blanco I would say them to my mom that those colors were black and white. I got so excited and was saying the colors as they came up on the screen. After that skit was over I laid down and took a little nap then went home.

spanish workers

Was walking on the side of the road and met the spanish men working on the bridge and started to talk to one of them. I asked him his name but I couldn't understand him cause he talked to fast. What I did hear was y tu and I told him my spanish name and by that time his boss said something to him and he ran off and I was walking again.

Blog about that 70's show

I was watching That 70's Show awhile back and discovered something about Spanish I didn't know. Fezz was trying to pronounce America, but he kept saying "A-med-I-ca" then about the next week I learned thats how they pronounce America in Spanish. It was also really funny because Red was getting upset that he wasn't speaking in English.

Pictured Rocks UMCamp 2009

Two years ago was my first year at camp. One of the girls there was extremely good at Spanish, and spoke it a lot! In our cabin, the boys had put up signs on their door that said, "No Girls Allowed." So, Monica, our Spanish chica, put up a sign on our door that said, "No Chicos Allowed." She made sure that we girls knew the difference between chicas and chicos, so it was really funny to us when the boys came out of their room, began saying, "We're NOT chicos!" at the top of their lungs. Monica then responded, "Okay, then you're chicas!" At this the boys went super crazy screaming, "NO, NO, NO, We're chicos, we're chicos!" It was positively fantastic!
